Coursewise for Canvas
Privacy Policy
Effective October 7, 2026
Coursewise for Canvas is a browser extension that helps students customize and organize their signed-in Canvas coursework. This policy describes the extension-only release without AI, accounts, or a Coursewise backend.
Data the extension uses
After you approve a specific school's HTTPS Canvas domain, Coursewise reads available course names, enrollment grades, assignments, announcements, and relevant Canvas URLs through your existing Canvas session. It uses those data in your browser to display course cards, deadlines, course health, and announcements.
Coursewise does not read passwords, Canvas cookies, private calendar feeds, messages, or Canvas files. If you choose a course picture, it reads that image locally to resize and store it.
What Coursewise stores
Coursewise stores connected school domains, course names, appearance choices, course pictures you choose, organizer layout choices, and numeric IDs of assignments you mark as read in Chrome local extension storage. Grade values, assignment details, and announcement content are used in page memory and are not stored by Coursewise. Chrome and Canvas may handle data under their own policies.
Sharing and retention
The extension sends Canvas API requests only to the school Canvas domain you connected, using your existing Canvas sign-in. It does not send Canvas data to a Coursewise server, AI provider, analytics provider, advertiser, or data broker. Coursewise does not sell data or use it for advertising.
Local settings remain until you disconnect the school, clear extension storage, or remove the extension. Disconnecting a school revokes its host access and deletes its saved course names and appearance settings. Removing the extension or clearing its storage deletes all local Coursewise settings. Canvas retains its own data under your school's policies.
Your choices
You choose which HTTPS Canvas domains to connect. Chrome asks you to approve each domain separately. You can disconnect a school in the Coursewise side panel. Coursewise does not alter your Canvas submissions or grades. Marking an item as read affects only your local Coursewise organizer.
Limited use
Coursewise uses information obtained through Chrome APIs only to provide its Canvas appearance and study summary features. It does not transfer that information to third parties for advertising or allow the developer to read it.
